The local heritage museum- called coffee mill

Picture museum Wolgast

Museum WolgastThe museum got its name because of the Dutch roof construction. When the house was built it had the function as a granary. It' s one of the oldest buildings of the town and wasn't destroyed during the big town fire 1713. Later it was used to live in by the owner. So you can see paintings on the roof beams of the ceiling. In the 50s the building became the restaurant The Golden Grape. Since 1955 it has been a local heritage museum.

Today you can visit 1000 years of Wolgasts history- from the Slavonic Temple of Cerovit to the Pomerian residence of dukes and the todays industrial and shipyard- town. The rooms of the former granary loft show several crafts like a cobbers shop, a chemists shop and a barber s shop working as a dentist, too. The museum is famous for the Freest fishermen- carpets and the collection of amber- the gold of the Baltic Sea. A gallery is on the upper loft, here you an buy artistic works and handicrafts of this region. From here you can have a fantastic view at the town, the river Peene and the Isle of Usedom.
